The Darran Valley History Group was established to create and maintain a record of the history of the Darran Valley area centered around Deri.
A major project completed in 2009 was the 100 year commemoration of a disaster at the Darran Pit in Deri when 27 men lost their lives.  Details can be found in the Mining section of this site.
We are currently working on a project to record the transformation of the Ogilvie colliery site to the current Parc Cwm Darran leisure facility.
We are also assisting Parc Cwm Darran management in collating information on the recently renovated bridge at the north end of Deri.
Please contact us if you have any relevent information or photographs relating to the above.

A DVD on the Darran Pit Disaster Commemoration is now available.  It includes review of the disaster, images and video of the commemoration events, background music by the Rhymney Silurian Choir and features the schoolchildren and the people of Deri.
The DVD is on sale for £5 and copies are available at Deri Library.  Alternatively, contact our Secretary (See Contact Us) until we have set up on line sales.
A more recent tragedy struck Deri in 2005 when Mason Jones lost his life as a result of an E.coli outbreak.  Profits from DVD sales are being donated to the HUSH (E.coli) charity.
