   RECENT NEWS

A major event in the history of mining in the area was a disasterous explosion at the Darran Pit in Deri in 2009.  A total of 27 men lost their lives with a devastating effect on the community.   

    The events to commemorate the Darran Pit disaster of October 9th 1909 took place from 29th October to 4th November 2009.  All were a great success. The whole village was brought together and many descendents  of those affected attended a number of the events.  Some photographs are shown below and more details will be included on the website soon.  A video on the pit disaster is available in the Video Gallery.
